The History Of Your Deck Company.

Your Deck Co. was established in 1986 at the age of 16 by owner Todd Mounsey. An avid outdoorsman, mountain biker, and hiker, and member of the Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue Team it was a logical extension for Todd to transition into a career that helped others enjoy the outdoors as much as he does. Todd has spent the last 35 plus years perfecting the art and science of deck building. Your Deck Co. continues to create unique deck designs and finishes that are unlike anything on the market today.

Since our early beginning, we have worked hard to solidify our position within the deck industry. Your Deck Company is known for being one of the most knowledgeable, dedicated and courteous companies to deal with. We have been honoured with numerous awards for deck design, featured in and on the cover of over 50 magazines and appeared on countless TV shows. Additionally, we are the go to specialists for the use of synthetic decking products such as Trex and TimberTech. Our passion for the outdoors has fueled our longevity. As a result, our longevity has provided us with the experience, knowledge and understanding that our clients require. The long history of Your Deck Company has provided us the ability to artfully create an outdoor space your family will enjoy for decades to come.

After hearing countless stories about sub-standard contractors and sub-contractors delivering poor quality products and services. It became apparent to Todd that there were significant issues regarding standards within the industry. Todd saw an opportunity to change the industry through “leadership by example”. No longer would Todd accept anything less than the best for his clients in terms of products, services and engineering quality.

Todd’s focus has and will always be on finding the best available products and materials. As well as providing meticulous finishing details, delivering consistent quality and providing great service. Your Deck Company is able to maintain this level of quality through continuing education and dedicated experience.  We regularly travel throughout Canada and the United States to receive specialized training on the products and services we offer. To this day, every one of our projects has been constructed by full-time craftspeople working for Your Deck Company. From conception through realization, our approach is simple. We are an on-site team of professionals. Our team arrives on time  and we  maintain a clean job site. Upon completion, we leave our clients with a unique, well-crafted project for decades of enjoyment.

At Your Deck Company  we want to make the process of building a deck fun and worry free. Occasionally, we are asked by potential clients if we can “just build them a basic deck”. Yes we can. However, a basic deck still needs to meet our standards for quality and finishing. Our clients not only want a well built deck, they appreciate the differences in quality and experience that we offer. We are not just another deck company offering a low price. A deck is not just a deck, and Your Deck is not your average deck company.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

Although we are regularly asked new and unique questions that are specific to that clients’ interests. We do have several topics that seem to be more common. We love it when our clients ask questions. This provides us with a chance to educate our clients beyond the basics of price and deck design.

  • What are the expected timelines?

    In general the lead times for a project start time can vary greatly depending on current bookings and other factors. At a very minimum you would expect to be at least a 5 to 7 week waiting period. Once you factor in initial design time, design revisions, material selection, the permit process, material ordering for special features, utility locates etc… a minimum of 5 to 7 weeks is required assuming there are no other projects underway at the time.

  • Is there a cost for design work?

    Yes, we do have a pricing structure for our designs and design time. All of our deck designs are created by award winning designer and TV personality Todd Mounsey. The pricing for our design services starts at $125 and can go over $4500. Pricing depends on several factors. The size of the project, if there are multiple revisions and if there is a permit package required. Engineering services also affect the overall cost of design. Our consultation time over the phone or via email is free of charge. We can discuss your project ideas and budgets then determine if a site visit is the next step. Please do not hesitate to consult with us today and get the conversation started regarding your upcoming project.

  • Are we a franchise?

    No! Your Deck Company is an independently owned and operated company and will remain that way. We have decades of experience crafting unique custom decks. We do not borrow photography from other franchisees and claim it as work we have constructed. Additionally we do not use any photography from manufacturers websites and claim it to be our work. All the work you see was crafted by us and presented to you.

  • What kind of investment should we anticipate?

    We are aware that most people are not aware of the current value of decks. However most people will have a budget range that is comfortable for them to invest into their space. The first step is to create a list of features that are important to you. Items such as privacy, multi-levels or a pergola. Additionally, how much outdoor space are you are willing to use? What is your preferred decking material? Maybe it’s Trex ultra low maintenance decking or maybe it’s Cedar? Ultimately, your budget range will help us determine what we can provide you with and what materials we use. We will help you prioritize the important features and guide you towards a successful installation. Once we are aware of your features, materials and budget we can guide you towards a deck design that will be suited for you and your family.
